ABOUT

A bilingual programme offered in two 100-hour modules for students who wish to deepen their practice and for aspiring teachers who are looking for the tools with which to teach intelligently and confidently. This programme will certify students to teach alignment-focused and philosophically-inspired Hatha and Vinyasa classes. The principles of Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative Yoga as well as the therapeutic benefits of yoga asana and pranayama are included.

By substantiating critical skills and knowledge to specific postures, the course materials inspire yoga teachers to find their own voice for giving clearer and more effective verbal instructions. Topics include the history of yoga, yoga philosophy and lifestyle, teaching methodology, sequencing, anatomy and meditation. Participants will also learn how to use props for designing one-on-one private sessions.

** Students who attend 100% of both Module I & II will receive a 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training certificate and qualify to register with the Yoga Alliance as a 200-hr RYT. **

Yoga Alliance Accredited School

PURE Yoga is a registered school with Yoga Alliance. Our teacher training programmes and teachers are internationally accredited, have exclusive recognition and qualify for the 200-hr Yoga Alliance Certification.

Yoga Alliance is an international governing board for yoga teachers and training programmes in the U.S and globally. Graduates of our programme are automatically eligible to register as a RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) with Yoga Alliance. Becoming a RYT means having a higher profile and gaining international recognition as a yoga teacher, attributes that many hiring studios look for.

Mission Statement

We offer this training in an effort to grow our community of committed yoga practitioners, empowering those who demonstrate dedication to a personal practice by sharing the knowledge, skills and tools we have learned so they too can start teaching yoga.

We intend to guide trainees toward a healthy self-confidence, while at the same time invoke a sense of humility and excitement, knowing that they are at the beginning of a long journey.

Syllabus

Module I
A. Teaching Methodology
Being a good teacher is not about doing the perfect, most difficult pose. It is about having good energy, being passionate and sharing what you know with others. It is about knowledge and authenticity and being of service.

In this session, you will:

  • Gain practical client assessment skills (including structural and functional assessment, basic Ayurvedic constitution assessment)
  • Learn to sequence individualised yoga practices using a variety of props (belts, blankets, blocks, bolsters, chairs, wall ropes and massage balls)
  • Learn to refine the structure and content of verbal cues
  • Learn to assist and adjust people in asana

B. Techniques, Training & Practice
Experience the essence of yoga asanas by learning progressive steps using various props – belts, blocks, bolsters, chairs and wall ropes – based on anatomical principles and muscular efforts, reinforcing the connection between mind and body, and using the body as a tool for getting into the present moment.

Each body is different and requires individual effort. There is no one-size-fits-all alignment or pose. By approaching yoga asanas with reference to the Ayurvedic principles, discussions will lead participants to make wise choices about props and modifications and teach them to work hard, stay present and surrender to the process, rather than focusing on the end result.

In this session, you will:

  • Learn to practise asanas using a variety of props (belts, blankets, blocks, bolsters, chairs, wall ropes and massage balls) according to the principles of alignment
  • Discover how yoga and Ayurveda work together to promote the well-being of the body, mind and spirit
  • Deepen your understanding of the breadth of yoga teachings (asanas, meditation, pranayama, diet, yoga philosophy, intuition, lifestyle, and more) and how they can be used to help one’s yoga practice

C. Anatomy & Physiology
A deep understanding of the anatomy and movement principles of the body is an invaluable tool for yoga teachers and serious students. Not only does it help your teaching, it also enriches your own practice. In this practical session, you will experience the below anatomical and kinesiological principles in asana practice:

  • Structure Below the Skin: Bones, Joints and Nerves
  • Muscular Movements Relative to the Force of Gravity
  • Upper Limbs (Neck, Shoulders and Back)
  • Lower Limbs (Hip and Legs)
  • Arms, Wrists and Hands; Ankles and Feet
  • The Diaphragm

Learning Objectives

At the end of the module, students will:

  • Demonstrate assessment skills (including structural and functional assessment, basic Ayurvedic constitution and imbalances assessment) for students or for themselves
  • Demonstrate ability to create and evaluate individualised yoga practices using a variety of props (belts, blankets, blocks, bolsters, chairs, wall ropes and massage balls)
  • Demonstrate a deeper understanding of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology
  • Know how yoga and Ayurveda work together to promote the well-being of the body, mind and spirit
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the breadth of yoga teaching (asanas, meditation, pranayama, diet, yoga philosophy, and more) and how they can be used to help one’s yoga practice
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of the power of the mind – the use of affirmations, visualisations and mantras

Module II

A. Techniques, Training & Practice
Experience a range of styles through practice, from healing and grounding to dynamic. Student-teachers will be taught a variety of physical and breathing methods to further engage themselves in practice.

In this session, you will:

  • Learn to practise asanas in various healing modalities in gentle, yin and restorative classes from both classical old-style grounding hatha yoga as well as modern restorative forms
  • Learn to practise asanas in various vinyasa class sequences and more creative expressive vinyasa forms

B. Teaching Methodology
Learn how to accurately see different bodies and identify misalignments and congestion to safely assist students in removing dysfunction that causes pain and unnecessary discomfort. Through discussion and practice, student-teachers will learn how to safely and intelligently sequence yoga classes.

In this session, you will:

  • Learn to refine the structure and content of verbal cues according to different styles of practices
  • Learn to assist and adjust people in asanas

C. Yoga Philosophy & Psychology, Lifestyle & Ethics for Yoga Teachers
Study Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra through discussions, mantras and meditation. Learn the deeper meanings of the definitive text of yoga by breaking down these pearls of wisdom beyond their rudimentary translations.

In this session, you will:

  • Deepen your understanding of the breadth of yoga teaching (asanas, meditation, pranayama, diet, yoga philosophy, intuition, lifestyle, and more) and how they can be used to help one’s yoga practice

D. Practicum

In this session, you will:

  • Practise teaching as the lead instructor
  • Receive and give feedback
  • Observe others teaching

Learning Objectives
At the end of the module, students will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to teach classes across healing, grounding and dynamic modalities
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding and direction to sequence classes based on breathing awareness, classical pranayama, and mantra meditation techniques
  • Demonstrate a greater context for and understanding of yoga in its entirety, beyond the physical approach to asanas
  • Co-create a nurturing environment where we can deepen our connection to ourselves, family, friends, and each other
