Nurturing the Nurturer: Finding Stillness in the Whirlwind of Motherhood

Motherhood is a constant state of ‘outward flow’—giving energy, attention and care to others. This May, PURE Yoga explores ‘inward flow’. To celebrate Mother’s Day, we invite our community to explore the concept of Ahimsa (non-violence/kindness) towards oneself. And yoga is the perfect way to transition from the ‘doing’ mind to the ‘being’ soul.

Tip 1: The Restorative Power of Yin While the PURE Active Series builds heat, our Yin and Restorative classes provide the deep, connective tissue release that many mothers desperately need. Holding poses for 3-5 minutes allows the nervous system to shift from “Fight or Flight” (Sympathetic) to “Rest and Digest” (Parasympathetic) — the ultimate mental reset.

Tip 2: Breath as an Anchor When the demands of home and work peak, the breath is the only thing we can control. We teach the Dirga Pranayama (Three-Part Breath) to help mothers anchor themselves in the present moment. By filling the belly, then the ribs, then the chest, you send a physical signal to your brain that “all is well”.

Tip 3: Finding Your Village Yoga is a solitary practice done in a community. For many mothers, the PURE Yoga studio is their ‘Third Space’—away from work and away from home. Connecting with fellow yogis after class creates a sense of belonging that is vital for mental well-being.

Conclusion: This Mother’s Day, remember that the most important relationship you nurture is the one with yourself. When you are grounded, aligned and at peace, you have more to give to the world.
