25 - 26 July 2026 | World Trade Centre - Causeway Bay

Arm Balance Lab with Marcel Erasmus

ABOUT

Arm Balance Lab is a focused, practical 5‑hour workshop that helps students move from tentative attempts to reliable, repeatable arm balances.

Designed for committed beginner → intermediate practitioners, the session blends alignment, progressive strength work and skill‑specific drills so that participants can approach crow, side crow and basic press variations with clarity and safety. The emphasis is on sustainable progress rather than spectacle.

Intro and overview

This workshop deconstructs arm balances into manageable components: base and grip, centre of mass control, hip & core coordination and safe entry/exit strategies. Teaching will comprise a mix short technical explanations, hands‑on adjustments, partner spotting and repeated, measurable drills. Students will practise accessible regressions and clear progressions so that everybody can find a path forward and leave with a concrete practice plan.

What participants will gain

  • Reliable alignment cues for wrists, shoulders, ribs and hips that make arm balances safer and more efficient
  • Targeted strength and mobility drills for scapular control, triceps, core bracing and hip positioning.
  • Stepwise progressions for Bakasana, Parsva Bakasana, Chaturanga Dandasana, Bhujapidasana, Tittibhasana, Astavakrasana
  • Balance strategies including weight shifts, fingertip modulation and breath timing.
  • Safe falling and exit techniques to reduce fear and encourage experimentation
  • A 10- to 15-minute take‑home routine and short progression plan to practise between classes

Workshop structure

  • Welcome and screening
  • Foundations and alignment primer
  • Strength and conditioning circuit
  • Skill progressions
  • Integration and flow
  • Cooldown, troubleshooting and next steps

Practical details and safety

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Level: Beginner to early intermediate arm balance students
  • Prerequisites: Comfortable with plank, downward dog and basic core engagement. No prior arm balance mastery required.
  • Safety notes: Screening at start; regressions always offered; emphasis on strength through range to prevent over‑stretching

Instructor approach

Teaching will be precise, encouraging and hands‑on when needed. Cues are concise and repeatable so that students can apply them in regular classes. The focus is on small, measurable wins: consistent 5-10 second holds, cleaner entries and safer exits. Each participant leaves with a personalised next step and a short practice they can repeat to build durable progress.

Marcel Erasmus

Marcel discovered yoga in 2012 while recovering from a skateboarding injury and it became a stabilising force in his life. To deepen his practice, he completed 200-hour teacher trainings in India and Hong Kong, and was influenced by Patrick Creelman and Noy Petchwikai's teachings. Drawing from various yoga styles, Marcel's classes range from inversions to Vinyasa flows and grounded Hatha. He aims to foster a learning environment that enhances mobility, strength, and cultivates inner peace, by connecting the breath and mind.
