Ashtanga Basics
This class sets the foundation for all other Ashtanga classes. Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic practice comprising a classical form of Yoga that combines movement and breath to produce an energetic and detoxifying practice. During this class, fundamental breathing and posture techniques related to the Ashtanga practice are explained. Suitable for new practitioners and students who want to increase their knowledge of the fundamental Ashtanga practice.
Ashtanga 1
This dynamic class comprises the classical form of Ashtanga Yoga as taught in its traditional sequence. It combines power and flexibility with movement, bandhas and breath to produce an energetic and detoxifying practice. During this class, the standing, seated, and finishing sequences may be shortened or modified. The Ashtanga opening chant is an intrinsic part of this Yoga tradition and may be included. Suitable for students with previous Vinyasa or Ashtanga experience.
Ashtanga 2 - Half Primary
This dynamic class comprises the classical form of Ashtanga Yoga as taught in its traditional sequence. It combines power and flexibility with movement, bandhas and breath to produce an energetic and detoxifying practice. This practice includes the first half of the Primary Series and full Finishing sequence (some postures may be skipped due to time constraints). The Ashtanga opening chant is an intrinsic part of this Yoga tradition and is included. Suitable for students with a consistent Ashtanga or Vinyasa practice. Note: It is strongly recommended that students be familiar with the Ashtanga sequence before attending this class.
Ashtanga 3 - Full Primary
This dynamic class comprises the classical form of the Ashtanga Primary Series as taught in its traditional sequence. It combines power and flexibility with movement, bandhas and breath to produce an energetic and detoxifying practice. This practice has minimal instruction and is done at a pace that allows the full Primary and Finishing sequences to be completed. Students should be familiar with the sequence to follow the pace of the class. The Ashtanga opening chant is an intrinsic part of this Yoga tradition and is included. Suitable for students with a consistent Ashtanga 2 or Mysore practice who are familiar with the Ashtanga sequence. Note: Students are strongly recommended to take Ashtanga 2 classes before taking this class and or ask the teacher if this advanced class is appropriate for them.
Ashtanga Mysore
This self-paced class follows the traditional method of Ashtanga Yoga that is taught in Mysore, South India. Students are individually and gradually taught the Ashtanga Primary Series until they memorise the sequence and are able to practise it on their own. Once the foundational basics are practised with a high level of competency, students can expect to move towards more advanced practice. The Ashtanga opening chant is an intrinsic part of this Yoga tradition and is included. Suitable for all levels of practitioners. Students are required to take 10 yoga classes before attending an Ashtanga Mysore class (Ashtanga Basics or Ashtanga 1 are strongly recommended). Beginners need to work closely with the teacher during their entire Ashtanga Mysore practice. Note: Students must enter the class with a minimum of 60 minutes to practise. Beginners' practice may last 30-45 min.
