Pilates reformer 101 - Understand your movement, build better control

This Reformer foundations workshop is designed to help you understand the key exercises and movement principles behind the Reformer, so you are not only following instructions but truly understanding how your body moves.

 

With an anatomy-based approach, we will look at alignment, breathing, core connection, and joint positioning to build a clearer understanding of how to move with better control and efficiency.

 

By learning the purpose behind the foundational movements, you will develop a stronger base for practice, improve movement quality, and reduce unnecessary strain that often comes from poor habits or ineffective movement patterns.

 

 

In this workshop

You will be guided through key Reformer foundations, including:

  • Breathing and core connection, to support stability and control through movement.
  • Neutral alignment and postural awareness, including head, shoulder, rib cage, pelvis, and spine organisation.
  • Foundational footwork, to develop lower-body alignment, control, and connection to the carriage.
  • Basic spinal movement, such as pelvic organisation and gentle articulation, to improve awareness and movement quality.
  • Arm and strap work, with attention to shoulder placement, scapular control, and upper-body efficiency.
  • Hip and leg patterns, to build strength, stability, and better coordination through the lower body.
  • Simple seated, kneeling, or standing sequences, to integrate balance, posture, and whole-body control.

 

This workshop is ideal for beginners, as well as anyone who wants to revisit the fundamentals and improve movement quality from the ground up.
