ABOUT

Unlock new dimensions of your yoga practice with our Functional Yoga Training Program, a transformative journey accredited by the Yoga Alliance. This innovative approach transcends yoga styles, focusing on safety and effectiveness by embracing the unique variations of the human skeleton.

Designed for both, practitioners and teachers, this training delves into the biomechanics of asana and the application of functional yoga principles to enhance your Hatha and Vinyasa practices. You will gain valuable anatomical knowledge, refining your ability to analyze human variation and teach individualized asana. This ensures yoga is accessible and inclusive, catering to everybody, across all styles of Hatha-based yoga.

Through a series of focused asana labs, you will meticulously deconstruct and reconstruct over 30 traditional Hatha poses—examining key standing poses, backbends, arm balances, and inversions. Discover how variations in the shoulder, spine, pelvis, and extremities influence the ideal alignment for each student. Critically evaluate standard alignment cues and learn to deliver functional cues that guide students safely and effectively into each posture.

Our goal is to empower you to teach traditional Hatha/Vinyasa by prioritizing function over aesthetics. Inspire your students to self-inquire, cultivate body intelligence, and discern the best ways to practice yoga tailored to their unique bodies, leading to an effective, safe, and sustainable yoga journey.

The functional anatomy component of this module zeroes in on the shoulder and upper extremities. We will engage in anatomy labs where you’ll conduct range of motion tests to analyze anatomical variations, learning to accurately apply these insights into pose modifications. Elevate your teaching and practice by understanding the art of Functional Yoga, where every movement is informed by a deep understanding of the human body.

The training will include:

  • Functional Yoga Theory & Practice
  • Yang Posture Clinics – Detailed Analysis of 30 Key Traditional Hatha Poses (Standing Poses, Backbends, Arm Balances & Inversions)
  • How to Teach Functional Hatha/Vinyasa
  • Applied Yoga Anatomy (Shoulder & Upper Extremities)

Schedule

1-3, 6-9 March 25 9:00am – 1:00pm Morning Session (Practice, Lectures & Anatomy Labs)
2:30pm – 6:00pm Afternoon Session (Lectures & Anatomy Labs)
