ABOUT

Join us for a two-part workshop series where we’ll explore the essence of the Ashtanga Vinyasa method. From foundational principles in Part 1 to mastering the challenging poses in the second half of the Primary Series in Part 2, there’s something for every level of practitioner.

Part 1: Ashtanga Primary Series – Basics

Dive into the core fundamentals of the Ashtanga Vinyasa method, known as the tristhana: Breath, Posture (Asana), and Gazing Point (Drishti). Learn the concept of the prescribed vinyasa count while exploring poses like Surya Namaskara A & B (Sun Salutations A & B) and key standing poses.

This session is perfect for beginners seeking to learn more about Ashtanga Yoga or experienced practitioners aiming to deepen their understanding and build a solid foundation.

Part 2: Ashtanga Primary Series – Beyond Navasana

Take your practice to the next level by focusing on the second half of the Primary Series, with a detailed exploration of poses like Bhujapidasana (Arm Pressure Pose), Kurmasana & Supta Kurmasana (Tortoise Pose), Garbha Pindasana (Embryo Pose), and Kukkutasana (Rooster Pose). Special attention will be given to alignment and transitions.

This session is designed for those with at least 6 months of consistent practice, looking to refine their technique and expand their skill set.

Benefits of the Workshop:

  • Language Accessibility: Conducted primarily in Cantonese, with English support provided when needed.
  • Hands-On Learning: The sessions incorporate interactive and practical approaches to understanding the Ashtanga Vinyasa Method.

Melissa Lau
Melissa's journey into yoga began with a life-changing trip to Bali in 2012, which led her to Ashtanga Yoga. Despite initially pursuing architecture, Melissa found her passion in yoga. Guided by mentors Dylan Bernstein and Clayton Horton, she went on to study with R. Sharath Jois in Mysore, India and transitioned to a career in teaching yoga. Her classes emphasise intelligence in breath and movement. It brings her great joy when students leave the class feeling lighter, calmer, and warmer at heart.
