Ready to master the art of the handstand? Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your technique, this workshop will help you build a strong foundation for your handstand practice. Through understanding the principles of strength, body awareness and proper alignment, you will achieve steady progress without injury.

Learn how to strengthen your core, enhance flexibility, and develop full-body control. The workshop will also explore balance shifts and coordinated movement for mastering handstands and variations, all while being more attuned to your body.

Workshop Details

Day 1: Strength Basics Understanding the strength fundamentals required for handstands, focusing on building stability, flexibility, and control.

 

What you’ll learn:

  • Exercises to strengthen wrist joints, shoulder flexibility, core control, and lower-body engagement for enhanced stability.
  • Techniques to safely enter, hold and exit a handstand.
  • Strategies to overcome common handstand challenges and misconceptions.
  • How to coordinate the key muscles necessary for a strong handstand.

 

Day 2: Handstand Foundations – Build upon the foundational concepts by focusing on proper handstand alignment and specific techniques.

 

What you’ll learn: 

  • A breakdown of body alignment that includes wrist, shoulder, core, hip, and lower-body positioning.
  • Wall-assisted and free-standing handstand techniques.
  • Key hand, finger, and shoulder strength applications.
  • Creating a mindful connection with your body to refine control and balance.

Wai Wong
Former stunt performer, Ying Wai, began practising yoga in 2015 to increase flexibility and prevent injuries. As he discovered yoga's holistic benefits, he deepened his study under the guidance of Shirley Wong and Marcus Leung, also gaining inspiration from Dylan Werner's unique hand balancing techniques. Since completing his teacher training in 2016, Ying Wai has focused on providing a positive, enriching learning environment for his students, emphasising mindfulness, authentic self-acceptance, and the exploration of potential.
