Develop the strength, awareness, and mobility to safely deepen your flexibility and increase your range of motion.

 

This course combines drills, assists, and transitions inspired by yoga, contortion, dance, and Thai massage that will help you develop a strong, solid, and safe foundation. We will explore how to integrate this into your practice and teaching. This knowledge will support you to create sequences and programs that are fun, effective, relevant, and smart.

 

This training is open to both teachers and students with an interest in flexibility/mobility training and how they can incorporate it into their practice and teaching.

The course covers
  • How to incorporate flexibility/mobility work into group classes, private classes and into your own personal practice.
  • Different types of stretching including static, passive, active, dynamic, ballistic, and PNF.
  • The benefits and risks of each type of stretching and how, when, and why to use them.
  • Alignment, cueing, and injury prevention.
  • How to safely assess an individual's flexibility and understand where their restrictions are in order to set goals and create the most effective programs.
  • Modifications and advancements including how to manage a class of students with different levels of flexibility.
  • Assisting and adjusting including prop and partner-based assists and therapeutic assists inspired by Thai massage.
  • Choreography including how to get creative with your practice and transitions.
  • Creative sequencing in warm-up routines, specific stretches, and whole-body sequences, which you can build into flexibility specific class plans and programs.
Friday, 4 April 2025 – Hamstrings and hips – front, middle splits, and pancake 04:30pm – 7:00pm Front and middle splits – In this Master Class we will dive into the vital role the hamstrings and hips play in front, middle splits, and pancakes. We’ll extend that out to include the glutes, quadriceps, and inner thighs.
Saturday, 5 April 2025 – Flip your grip




9:00am – 11:00am Master Class – In this Master Class we will explore the rotation of the shoulders when coming into flipped grip poses including king pigeon, low lunge, bow, standing splits and dancers pose.
11:15am – 1:00pm Drills and Skills. In this session we will cover drills for:

  1. Shoulder flexibility including the correct rotation on the shoulders when approaching flipped grip poses.
  2. Alignment and modifications including how to come into flipped grip poses both passively and actively.
  3. How to approach flipped grip poses using props including a strap, blocks, and the wall.
1:00pm – 2:00pm Meal Break
2:00pm – 3:30pm Adjusting and Assisting

This session will start off with therapeutic/Thai yoga style adjustments and will move on to deeper flexibility assists.
In these sessions we will cover:

  1. How to use the various forms of assisting and adjusting from verbal cues to directional signals to physical manipulation in both a group and private class setting.
  2. The role of props as tools in adjusting and assisting.
  3. Adjustments and assists for king pigeon, low lunge, bow, standing splits and dancers pose.
  4. Self assists to reduce tension, improve alignment, and support your body to deeply relax.
3:45pm – 5:00pm Sequencing and creative shape play

In this session we will explore:

  1. Tools and techniques for creative sequencing including some fun transitions and how you can integrate them into your practice
  2. Partner and group flexibility shapes
Sunday, 6 April 2025 9:00am – 11:00am Master Class – Upper back and shoulders -This Master Class will use dance-inspired spinal waves, circles, and twists to explore how to create length and strength in the spine – as well as how to perform fluid and graceful transitions.
11:15am – 1:00pm Drills and Skills. In this session we will cover drills for:

  1. Upper back and shoulders.
  2. Alignment and modifications for cobra, camel and wheel pose.
  3. Fun transitions, creative sequencing and variations including camel to wheel, forearm wheel plus drop backs!
1:00pm – 2:00pm Meal Break
2:00pm – 3:30pm This session will start off with therapeutic/Thai yoga style adjustments and will move on to deeper flexibility assists.
In these sessions we will cover:

  1. How to use the various forms of assisting
    and adjusting from verbal cues to directional signals to physical manipulation in both a group and private class setting.

  4. Self assists to reduce tension, improve alignment, and support your body to deeply relax.

  2. Partner and group flexibility shapes
