About the Training

Restorative Yoga is accessible to any individual regardless of age or physical condition. Through the skilful use of props – blankets, bolsters, straps, and chairs – you’ll learn to create a nurturing environment where deep relaxation and healing naturally occur.

 

This practice provides a remedy for challenges like stress, anxiety, chronic pain, and insomnia – common struggles in today’s fast-paced world. With Samantha Chan’s expert guidance, you’ll gain the ability to tap into the parasympathetic nervous system and help students cultivate balance, ease, and stillness.

Syllabus

Level I – Foundations & Theory
Dates: 8, 9, 15, 16 November 2025 (Sat & Sun)
Time: 8:30am – 5:30pm
Prerequisites: Open to all levels.
Ideal for new and experienced yoga teachers or anyone passionate about creating restorative experiences.

 

This foundational training focuses on the science and art of Restorative Yoga. You will gain the tools needed to guide yourself and students through personalized practices.

    • Anatomy of the Nervous System: Parasympathetic vs. Sympathetic

    • Distinctions Between Restorative and Yin Yoga

 

  • Restorative Asanas
    • The physiological, psychological and emotional effect of each key poses

    • The art and subtleties of folding, propping and blanketing

 

  • Sequencing in Restorative Yoga
    • Crafting thoughtful sequences for classes
    • Designing restorative practices individual and groups

Level II – Advanced Concepts
Dates: 22, 23, 29, 30 November 2025 (Sat & Sun)
Time: 8:30am – 5:30pm
Prerequisites: Completion of Level I or extensive teaching experience.
Completion of Level I is required. With 2+ extensive teaching experience, or have undergone training at other institution.

 

Take your skills to the next level with advanced teachings in Restorative Yoga. Level II focuses on therapeutic applications, somatic exploration, and enhancing your teaching skills.

  • Inversion series and their application in restorative yoga

 

  • Teaching with minimal props: creativity and flexibility

 

  • Therapeutic sequences for specific needs:
    • Recovery from active sports
    • Relief of lower back pain
    • Addressing insomnia, menstrual discomfort, pregnancy and menopause

 

  • Mind-centric restorative yoga program:
    • Support for depression, anxiety, stress reduction, and more

 

  • Seasonal approaches to restorative practices

 

  • Therapeutic sequences for specific restorative alignments

 

  • Restorative yoga programmes for the mind

 

  • Enhancing your teaching skills:
    • Observation voice modulation, and intuitive guidance
    • Verbal cues to deepen relaxation
    • Advanced hands-on assisting techniques

 

  • Incorporating pranayama into restorative yoga

 

  • Exploring emotional and philosophical dimensions of restorative yoga

 

Methodology & Requirements 

This training combines lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, group work, and teaching practicums to ensure comprehensive learning. You will also complete key readings before training begins to enrich your understanding of Restorative Yoga.

 

Required Reading Materials:

3.‘’Miracle of Mindfulness’’ by Thich Nhat Hanh

 

On-going assessment and practicums are included during the training. You will also have to complete a short quiz at the end of the training. A certification of completion will be issued. This can be used for Yoga Alliance CEU in Restorative Yoga based on hours of programme.

Level I: 8, 9, 15, 16 November 2025 (32 contact hours plus 3 non-contact hours)

Participants who attend 100% of the training and pass ongoing assessments will earn a 70-hour Restorative Yoga Teacher Training certificate, applicable for Yoga Alliance CEUs.

Samantha Chan
Samantha started yoga to deepen her personal practice and knowledge. Since her first teacher training in 2005, it became a lifelong journey encompassing wellness, women's health, and life balance. She has expanded into Pre- and Post-Natal Yoga, Birthlight Perinatal Yoga, Infant Massage, and Kid's Yoga. Known for her steady, calm, and approachable teaching style, Samantha encourages students to progress at their own pace, making classes a blend of work and play.

Samantha’s yoga journey began in 2005 with her first teacher training program, igniting a passion that has blossomed into a lifelong exploration of yoga and wellness. What started as a personal quest to deepen her practice has transformed into a rich tapestry of learning, sharing, and teaching. Her vision now encompasses not only yoga but also women’s health, life balance, and holistic wellness.

 

Samantha draws inspiration from her past teachers as well as her students, believing that each practice session enhances her understanding of yoga’s profound benefits for a happy and healthy life. This reciprocal learning fosters a dynamic and enriching environment where she grows alongside her students, creating a sense of community and connection.

 

In addition to her foundational Hatha Vinyasa training, Samantha has expanded her expertise to include Pregnancy Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Infant Massage, and Kids Yoga. Dedicated to helping students progress at their own pace, she fosters a supportive atmosphere. Her approachable and calm teaching style is often belied by her playful nickname, “Killer Sam.” With an innate ability to challenge her students while ensuring they enjoy the journey, Samantha encourages them to elevate their practice, making her classes not just a workout but a joyful experience.
