Handstand: Not Just a Matter of Strength, but an Integration of Control and Awareness.

Many practitioners get stuck at the same stage – unable to kick up, unstable when they do, or only able to rely on the wall without truly mastering balance. The issue isn’t “lack of strength,” but the absence of a clear and effective practice system.

This two-day Sunday Handstand Workshop will guide you to rebuild from the ground up.

This isn’t just about learning a single move; it’s about building a practice method that allows for continuous progress.

If you wish to:

  • Break through long-standing handstand plateaus
  • Transition from “forcing your way up” to “controlling your way up”
  • Build stable and sustainable handstanding ability
  • Make the handstand a part of your practice, not an occasional success

This workshop will be a crucial step.

Course Objectives:

  • Establish safe and effective handstand entry methods
  • Understand body alignment and core control
  • Improve balance and body awareness
  • Explore different handstand variations and applications

Day 1, 13 Sep, On the first Sunday, we will focus on fundamentals and entry methods. You will learn how to kick up with minimal effort, establish proper alignment, understand how your palms and fingers control balance, and build stability and a sense of security using wall exercises. At the same time, we will dive deep into core integration and breath control, allowing you to remain clear-headed and stable in your handstand, rather than tense and out of control.

Rebuilding a Foundation of Lightness and Stability
Theme: Control, Alignment, Balance Establishment

  • Body activation & foundational preparation
    • Wrist and shoulder stability training
    • Core and scapular engagement
    • Foundational alignment drills (hollow body, line awareness)

  • Kicking-up variations: rediscovering “lightness”
    • Single leg kick-up
    • Tuck jump
    • Controlled float-up to the wall
    • How to avoid “muscling up” and over-reliance on momentum

  • Wall handstands: building proper balance perception
    • Back-to-wall vs. face-to-wall differences
    • Using your fingers to control weight shifts (finger control)
    • Finding your “midline” from the wall instead of leaning on it
    • Small, controlled movements away from the wall

  • Proper handstand alignment
    • Alignment of palms, wrists, shoulders, pelvis, and feet
    • Using the core and pelvis to control your body line

  • Internal balance & breathing
    • Breathing patterns in a handstand
    • Noticing the boundary between tension and relaxation
    • Cultivating a state of “stable relaxation” in the handstand

Day 2, 20 Sep, On the second Sunday, we will further elevate your control and introduce variations and applications. From free-standing holds and weight shifting to various handstand shapes (Tuck Jump, Straddle Jump, straight line, backbend, single-leg control, etc.), you will begin to truly use your handstand, not just hold it briefly.
