What is Universal Yoga?

©Universal Yoga is a complete and systematic style created by Andrey Lappa. Its primary goal is to achieve freedom and balance in the body, energy and mind. Unlike styles with fixed sequences, it provides a flexible framework. Most famous are the “T-structure” and circular “Mandala” sequences that guide practitioners through movements in all directions for truly balanced development.

It is a holistic practice that equally integrates physical postures, detailed breathwork (pranayama), meditation and deep study of yoga philosophy and energetic anatomy. Rather than following a script, teachers are trained as “practice designers” who use ©Universal Yoga’s principles to create unique, personalised sessions tailored to any student’s needs.

Faculty Bio

Andrey Lappa is a pioneering Ukrainian yoga master, renowned for developing ©Universal Yoga, one of the world’s most systematic and intellectually comprehensive yoga systems. His journey began in the 1970s, fuelled by a deep dissatisfaction with the fragmented, often physical-centric yoga he encountered. A lifelong passion for mountaineering and the martial arts instilled in him an analytical, engineering-like mindset—one he later applied to decode the vast and complex teachings of yoga.

Driven by this need for clarity and structure, Andrey embarked on decades of immersive study across India, Nepal and Tibet, studying under masters of Tantra, Hatha and Buddhist yoga. He synthesised this profound knowledge with principles from geometry, physics and sacred architecture to create ©Universal Yoga, a method not of fixed postures but of adaptable frameworks designed to develop the practitioner equally on physical, energetic and consciousness levels. Today, he is recognised as a visionary teacher’s teacher, whose legacy is a rational, complete map for achieving personal freedom and balance.
