ABOUT THE TRAINING

In today’s fast-paced world, children’s mental health and emotional well-being are increasingly at risk. Do you feel called to make a positive difference by empowering children & youth to manage stress, stay calm, and build emotional resilience?

Creative Yogis, a Registered Children’s Yoga School (RCYS) and Continuing Education Provider approved by Yoga Alliance USA, offers you the chance to do just that. Led by Karen Wightman, a passionate and dedicated yoga and mindfulness educator, Creative Yogis celebrates the uniqueness of each child. By studying with Karen, you can become a certified Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT), inspiring and engaging children of all ages and abilities safely, meaningfully and appropriately in a variety of settings.

Creating a safe space for children to express their feelings fosters emotional intelligence, self-regulation and self-awareness. It supports anxiety management, promotes kindness, and aids in behaviour management. By empowering children and families with the holistic skills of yoga and mindfulness, we help them thrive and become compassionate, empathetic individuals.

Why choose this training?

The 95-hour Children’s Yoga Teacher Training (RCYT) offers a comprehensive and experiential learning programme that blends theory, practice and discussions. Conducted in a relaxed, fun and student-centred environment, it inspires creative learning.

Divided into two modules, the training spans 10 days with full attendance required for certification. Participants will receive detailed manuals, webinars and resources. In addition, trainees will be invited to join a private group and global community of teachers to receive ongoing support.

  • Module One: Gentle Beginnings, Foundations & Family

Invite little yogis ages 2-8 and their families to explore their bodies through simple breathing practices, mindful movement, dance, play, mindfulness, songs, stories, creativity, and family yoga.

  • Module Two: Blossoming Tweenies and Tuning into Teens

Continue the journey with our pre-teens (ages 9-12) and teens (ages 13-18) during this transformative period. Support them with postures, breath awareness, mindfulness and meditations. Engage them with challenges, games, reflective activities, creative self-expression and deep relaxation to foster self-awareness.

Guide them to discover their inner peaceful, resilient and brave warrior, equipping them with skills to navigate the often-bumpy road to young adulthood. Offer support with kindness, gentle humour, authenticity and deep compassion.

Please note: Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT200) will be further eligible for the specialty designation as a RCYT upon the completion of the course and additional requirements.

If you do wish to attend individual modules only, these hours can still be counted as Continuing Education Training (CET) Hours for Yoga Alliance RYT with your ‘certificate of completion’.

Students will also receive reading assignments prior to and during the training in order to fulfil the non-contact hours required.

Whether you’re a yoga teacher, trainee, practitioner or educational professional, you’ll find valuable continuing education here. Health-care professionals, therapists, social workers and child psychologists can also discover inspiring techniques to use in their work.

Parents and grandparents are warmly invited to learn how to integrate yoga play and mindfulness into their children’s lives, enriching your time together in creative and health-oriented ways. While it’s not essential, having at least one year of personal practice to understand the basic yoga poses is recommended.

The seeds we plant in our bodies and minds at an early age create the potential for a happy, healthy and joyful life. In our busy world, children as young as pre-school age are feeling the effects of stress. Evidence-based research highlights the value and health benefits of sharing yoga and mindfulness tools to support this precious age.

Gentle Beginnings, Foundations & Family is an invitation to reconnect with your inner child by immersing yourself in the world of children’s yoga and mindfulness. Learn to nurture, nourish and connect with children and their families. Explore mindful movement, dance, simple breath awareness, creativity, mindfulness activities, games, laughter and song while connecting to JOY.

Crafted with a balance of theory, practice and interaction, the training is educational, fun, and facilitated in a dynamic format. Learn current and age-appropriate tools that inspire and support the entire family.

Family yoga and special events are gaining popularity as stress levels rise and family time lessens. These unique opportunities bring all ages together to bond through movement, connection, love, laughter and play, creating special memories.

Our fabulous pre-teens and teens are a special population that truly benefit from yoga and mindfulness. This delicate and tender time is largely influenced by the huge changes taking place both internally and externally.

Gain a solid foundation of practical knowledge and relevant skills with age-appropriate yogic and mindfulness tools to engage and support this diverse age group. The training is facilitated through a balance of theory and embodied knowledge in a creative, student-centred and interactive format.

It is Karen’s to empower tweens and teens to experience yoga and mindfulness as a ‘wellness technology’. By developing confidence in these tools, they can take them ‘off the mat’ and apply them directly to their daily lives. This translates to ‘Yoga in action’, where the impact is visible in supporting youth as they navigate school stress and pressure.

With the dramatic increase in both anxiety and depression among our youth, their ability to self-regulate and manage difficult emotions as they arise is essential. Sustainable coping mechanisms and resilience help promote positive emotional, mental and physical health and well-being. Connecting daily to a place of stillness aids in cultivating greater peace and stability, creating an internal refuge to support ongoing stress management.

Become a much-needed ‘lighthouse’ by showing authenticity, sensitivity, kindness, compassion and humour to gain trust, confidence and respect during this vulnerable time. Being light, interested, creative, caring, engaging and fun is essential. Offering them a safe space to unplug, relax, play, connect, and be present in their busy lives is deeply rewarding.

TESTIMONIALS
  • Helen – Hong Kong: This training has been the most energetic, memorable and inspirational experience for me as an individual. During these past 10 days, Karen Authentically influenced all of us with her strong passion and belief in making a great impact on children through practising yoga.  I cannot appreciate enough having this opportunity to have met Karen and all my fellow classmates.  I am looking forward to implementing what I have learned in this training in my classroom and making a difference in children’s lives.

  • Jennifer (Primary School Teacher) – Hong Kong: Karen’s training was an incredible experience. She is highly knowledgeable, professional, generous, and passionate. The teaching manuals and resources thoroughly cover various aspects of teaching yoga to children, making them invaluable tools for integrating yoga into my daily primary school teaching. I truly enjoyed her lessons and learned so much. Karen, thank you once again for being such an inspiration!

  • Vivian (Special Needs Teacher) – Hong Kong: Karen is an amazing teacher! The course structure and materials are clear and comprehensive. I love how Karen teaches—she not only demonstrates sample classes but also lets us teach them ourselves as part of the learning process. I highly recommend this course!

  • Danyu – Beijing: Karen has put so much love and passion into yoga teaching for kids, families and teens’ yoga. That love and passion are what make her training so wonderful and irreplaceable. I didn’t realize that the power of yoga could bring so much strength (mental and physical), resilience, and relaxation to children of different developmental stages. That power spoke for itself when we saw Karen’s demo classes and listened to her student’s narratives.  I hope that one day I can teach kids using every pose, activity and game we’ve learned in Karen’s training and lesson plans, and also utilizing the same kindness, joy and creativity that Karen brought us throughout this wonderful journey.

  • Gayle – SG: What an amazing experience! I immediately fell in love with Karen’s kind and exuberant energy on day one. Her laughter is the best thing ever! Karen is an expert in her field and shares her wealth of knowledge with passion and wholeheartedness. She was incredibly attentive to our needs throughout the entire course and made space for everyone to be seen, heard, and uplifted. So grateful to have had this opportunity to learn from her and get to know such inspiring individuals from all over the world.

  • Soraya – HK: My training with Karen was incredible in many aspects. But the most important one is the tremendous amount of loving, sharing, and hearted commitment that you receive from Karen’s teachings. She gives her heart by sharing with us her huge experience with children’s yoga and she just does her best, waking up so early to be in our time zone, her creativity and her smile always make us shine. I feel very grateful to get to know her and be part of the community for children’s yoga through her training. I can’t wait to apply her teachings. Thank you Karen
  • Angela: Being with Karen is been a joy! The warmth and welcoming attitude make us all do our best in the whole process, everything is explained well, the energy is consistent, the dedication and passion in her sharing is amazing and nobody is left behind, our children take part in sharing and activities too. Karen really is a Mummy Butterfly 🦋

  • Anna: Karen is a very loving teacher who empowered us throughout our journey in this course. She delivered her content wholeheartedly, with such deep passion and generosity.  The content of her course was so comprehensive and the level of detail was impeccable!  I would love to join Karen in her future training as well. ❤

  • Jennifa (PURE Yoga Teacher) – Hong Kong: As a devoted yoga practitioner and a full-time adult yoga teacher, I have learned so much more from Karen. Her detailed and thoughtful, easy-to-follow training manuals and class structure make the knowledge easy to absorb. You will be so ready to teach once you complete the training, I wouldn’t recommend any other training for Kid’s Yoga but hers.

  • Alice (Yoga Student) – Hong Kong: Truly fun and inspiring, the techniques and teaching in these short four days is not restricted just for kids. So much to take home and I look forward to learning again with Karen.

  • Carol (Yoga Teacher) – Hong Kong: Karen’s class is well-planned and very practical. It’s very hands-on. I feel like I’m already well-equipped to run my own class. The class is fun and full of positive energy. Thank you, Karen!

  • Isabella (Yoga Teacher) – Hong Kong: The course exceeded my expectations in terms of content. Karen is inspirational and organised. Her teaching, filled with positive energy, warmth, kindness and encouragement has greatly helped to increase my confidence and knowledge and improved my teaching skills overall.

  • Serena (Yoga Teacher) – Shanghai: This training allowed me to feel fully prepared to teach kids. Karen brought a lot of useful tools and advice that should give us some freedom to create our own class.

  • Kristina (School Teacher) – Hong Kong: Wonderful to experience the class with different ages of children and teens and trying to teach the classes. Great manuals were made by Karen, which helps a lot to revise and practice teaching.
  • Carrie (Yoga Student) – Shanghai: I had thought teens would be much more like adult yoga, but Karen had crafted a special curriculum to address teens specific needs, making yoga fun and applicable to their hectic lives. She is a gem and if you have the opportunity to learn from this amazing soul, it is a gift you should quickly explore!

  • Lyndsey (School Teacher) – Singapore: This is the second module I have done with Karen – she is full of passion and enthusiasm for teaching pre-teens and shares her knowledge in a generous and professional manner. Every aspect of teaching this age group is considered and we had lots of active practice.

  • Lucy (School Teacher) – Hong Kong: The trainees themselves were humbled by the transformative nature of the workshop, which held a mirror to Karen’s facilitation style – grounded in empathy, creativity and reflexivity – and empowered to use these highly impactful skills and knowledge to hold space for teens as they transition through important life stages.
